The Beverly Shade Shoppe was founded in 1930 by Richard Stapledon. Mr. Stapledon began by renting a small store on Elliot street where he sold custom window shades which he manufactured in the back room. In the 1940's he purchased a three story house at 309 Cabot Street and moved the buisiness two the first floor allowing him incresed space to expand the business. Mr. Stapledon had the top floors removed in the 50's creating the building which still stands today.
Anthony and Susan Conte purchased the business from Mr. Stapledon in 1971. Tony had begun working their in 1968 while attending college and decided to take over the business when Mr. Stapledon retired. Today, the store is still in the same bulding purchased by Mr Stapledon, although the showroom has been expanded and the manufacturing area rebuilt after a fire in 1980.
The Shoppe continues to make custom roller shades as it has for over 75 years and is a dealer of all Hunter Douglas custom window treatments. Most of the products sold are measured and installed by Tony personally.
During the selection process customers can come to the showroom to view our wide selection of products or sample books can be brought to the home or business when we measure. Customers who wish to measure and install themselves are guided in the correct methods by the Conte's either at the store or by phone.
